GICS Sector Classification
GICS — Global Industry Classification Standard — groups companies into 11 sectors based on their primary economic activity: Energy, Materials, Industrials, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples, Health Care, Financials, Information Technology, Communication Services, Utilities, and Real Estate. This classification system, developed by MSCI and S&P, is the standard used by most institutional investors.
